The frustrating words of a loser who could not win upon his fancied Mumbai. Story of a dream unfulfilled.

Mumbai- Everytime I land into this city, I find I am nervous, confused and lost in the vastness of this city or may be infront of the large canvas of it's life.  I feel as if this city taunts me everytime- " Look Joyjit, Mumbai is for the winners and not for the average like you ".... And I accept it with the promise of trying to be a winner in future. Unfortunately everytime I step in to Mumbai, it's for a while only and this time just for a night because of official assignment.

One of my most favourite song " Rimjhim Gire Sawan " shows the magic of the romantic Mumbai of 70s, the romantic rainy evenings of Mumbai, monsoon at Marine Drive and Worli Sea link, and romance at it's best in the rain. This song is perhaps my first cause of loving this city when I was a teenager. Everytime I observed the water logged streets of Mumbai with water splashing romance and dripping trees and grass, tidal waves of Arabian sea, I could imagine a dream weaving young couple wet in the downpour and walking through the footpath of Marine Drive with their hands held together inspite of the high tidal waves lashing at the walls. I have spent many nights sitting on the walls of Marine Drive and observed what life is all about. In one hand, I have seen the forming of relationship between a couple like the inflated large wave in the middle of a sea. On the other hand I have been a witness to the end of a 10 years long relationship like the waves suddenly crashing on the sea shore and disappearing away. I can remember that famous song from Anand, Zindagi, kaisi hai paheli haye , kabhi toh hasaye, kabhi yeh rulaye... And then at 3 am in the night with the famous bhelpuri in my hand, I could hear the whisperings between a middle aged couple discussing about their reunion after a break up of eight years. And that's Mumbai. Life never ends here and there is always a new beginning.

There's nothing wrong in seeing a dream bigger than your eyes as because every dreams are untouchables before those are fulfilled. So do I dream of staying in Oberoi Mumbai and watch the beautiful sunset against the backdrop of the roaring waves of Arabian Sea and the long curving stretch of Queen's Necklace in Marine Drive. Or perhaps enjoying a peg of whisky on the rocks sitting at my apartment of a highrise located beside Marine Drive or Bandstand, and staring far away across the sea towards a small dot of light vanishing and appearing again and again through the rain dripped window panes. And that's lifeline perhaps. Zindagi aur kuch bhi nahi, teri meri kahani hai.

From Dharavi to Ville Parle , Bandstand to Juhu and Marine Drive to Andheri via Worli Sea Link, and those busy railways stations and the crowded local trains, you will find  the definition of life written everywhere. Each day is a new chapter in this city. You can move around the world in eighty days, but you cannot explore Mumbai in eighty years which is a complete life line perhaps.

Sahi mein Salaam Mumbai. Tu ek aisa shahar hai Jo logon ko aapna aukad ka ehsaas dilata hai. Par ek cheez tu jaan le...main bahaut khush hoon Ahmedabad mein....kam se kam yeh shahar logon ko aapnane deti hain...tere jaisa ghamandi nahi.

Chal saali patli gali nikal. Aab thodi he der mein Ahmedabad aanewale hain. Phir milenge kabhi.

Well, these are the frustrating words of a loser perhaps who could not fulfill his dream of settling down in his fancied Mumbai. Love you Mumbai.
