Management Education in Business Schools and Unitedworld School of Business. The difference.

From my past experience of visiting different Business Schools and recruiting students through campus interviews, one thing is very clear to me. Most of the Business Schools which includes the top notch business schools, willingly not mentioning the names are actually making the students swallow knowledge and forcefully inject skills without knowing the proper competence and ability of a student or the inner traits he or she possess. As a result of which when you ask a simple question like as a part of a NGO, how would you calculate the number of street dogs present in your city inorder to estimate the number of injection syringe and veterinary medical staffs required to put injection to the street dogs, you get all theoritical answers from the students including the students from few of the top Business schools of the country. As an interviewer we then feel that as if we are meeting a bunch of Management robots who can't think beyond their limit to create solutions towards a crisis situation and this is exactly where most of the students passing out from different business schools are having deficiencies. Instead of using the simple technique of considering the average number of street dogs present in ten lanes of the cities and multiplying the average number of dogs per lane with approximately the total number of lanes in the city and calculating the the approximate number of dogs present in the city and buying the injection syringes accordingly in excess or estimating the number of veterinary staffs required, the students submit a budget of hiring a market research team for the same activity. Few students have gone to the extent of sending individuals to every lanes to calculate exactly the number of dogs present in the city which is so funny as an experience I have faced while interviewing these students. The Business Schools must understand that Management Education is not only about injecting knowledge and skill, but it's all about injecting knowledge and skill with right attitude which depends on how well the Business school studies the inner traits of the students right from day one and polish their soft skills and communication skills accordingly. With my 27 years of experience in the Corporate, I personally feel that shaping the right attitude of a student is the most important function of a Business School which is not happening may be in most of the Business Schools.

Well, there are exceptions also. Surprisingly I found that there are many B Category Business Schools where the students are much more sharper and wise than many of the top business schools in the country.

Recently I visited the Karnavati University located at Gandhinagar, Gujarat to take campus interview for my company. I threw a simple question to their students. Who ever entered for the interview, I gave them a pen and asked them to sell the pen to me. To my surprise, 70% of the students gave a nice introduction about themselves and the product and supported the advantages of using the pen by explaining the benefits. Infact most of the students justified that why I need a second pen. When I met their Director, I found that once in a week the students are given selling exercises and they have to move around the campus to sell different products among the University staffs and students.

I asked a second question to almost everyone. As a manager of a garment company, what will a person do if a multinational company cancels the lot of 5000 T shirts printed with logo just 4 days prior to the dealer meet just because the logo was not properly visible and asks for fresh print of 5000 T shirts with logo. Surprisingly, most of the students came out with the correct answer of weaving logos atop the printed logos and selling off the old bunch of t shirts at the most in a low cost and recovering money from.it and on the other hand printing a frest bunch of 5000 T shirts as per the request of the MNC so that minimizing the loss, the manager of the garments company can maintain a good relation with the MNC. Now this question is a typical question which I ask in most of the interviews and 99% of the students come out with wrong answers. But here at Unitedworld School of Business, I was surprised to see the aptitude and attitude level of the students which were quiet impressive.

I explored further and I found that the soft skill trainers at Unitedworld School of Business train their students regularly on crisis situations apart from the regular classes on Communication skills and soft skills.

And exceptionally I was impressed seeing the quality of the students at Unitedworld School of Business. One of my ex boss once said that most of the outstanding and extraordinary achievements are achieved by the most ordinary people if they are guided properly because tbey have a fire in their belly.

And this is where, I found something different. I was also impressed with the lush green 21st Century State of the Art, eco friendly infrastructure of Karnavati University and the student life inside the campus. There is a perfect opportunity of knowledge and cultural attributes sharing as the teachers and the students come from different parts of the country creating a perfect Cosmo Peer Group. And a cosmopolitan environment of a business school plays a vital role towards shaping the right and dynamic attitude of a student.

Generally I dont believe in recommending any Business School to the students. But Karnavati University is a place which really impressed me and this is a perfect place to groom yourself even if someone doesn't fall under the extra ordinary category.
